A boot puller consists of a U-shaped opening where the heel of the boot is engaged and a flat surface at the back on which one can apply their weight.

The use of a boot puller has several advantages over removing boots by hand: it allows the foot to be pulled directly upward out of the boot while using one's full weight to hold the boot in place; it also prevents getting hands dirty and avoids the need to bend down or sit.
